Sumps and Pumps Simplified:

Servicing and maintaining the drainage of Type C Waterproofing systems is crucial in ensuring that the installation is a long term success. Supported by CSSW qualified technicians, BWS aims to ensure that longevity is a priority, hence we advise that groundwater pump stations are considered on all basement waterproofing projects.

In part, this is due to the risk posed by the altering of natural underground water courses during new-build projects as well as excavation around 'dry' basements.

Considering and installing a sump and pump system on your project will accompany a system that is designed to protect basements from water ingress

.

Explained:

A Type C System isn't classified as a hydrostatic barrier but will provide protection by means of water management. The principal determining factor with Type C is a formed Cavity that enables water to run through the system and is directed to collection channels. Collection channels deliver the water to a discharge destination. In order for this to be achieved, a cavity drain membrane(CDM) is used with drainage pipes directing to a sump and pump system to manage the disposal of the collected water. Crucially, the pumped water is discharged into suitable drainage capable of managing large quantities of water.

The British standard (BS8102:2009) deems that combined protection should be considered where the project is classified as high risk, the consequences of falling to achieve the intended internal environment are too high additional vapour checks are necessary for a system where unacceptable water vapour transmission can occur

Benefits:

  • Speed of Installation.
  • Provides vapour control and when used with humidity control systems is capable of delivering an environment to all levels within a Grade 3 environment to BS8102:2022
  • Suitable for use in areas of permanent high water tables.
  • Suitable for use in existing basements.
  • Can also provide radon protection
